Description and style
Vermut Cisa Rojo is the founding vermouth of the Cisa house, one of the oldest producers in the area and a hidden classic beyond the Maresme. Founded in 1880 by the Piera family facing the Mediterranean Sea in El Masnou, it earned the gold medal at the Barcelona International Exposition and has remained faithful to the same traditional formula for more than five generations.
Its origins as a producer of fortified wines date back to the time when Francesc Piera Cisa and Maria Teresa i Badia began making wine by the sea, shaping a vermouth identity that feels both deeply Mediterranean and richly rooted in local tradition. 🍷
Vermut Cisa Rojo is made from the finest white wines of the Penedès — with Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Parellada as the main base — combined with the alcoholic maceration of more than 20 natural herbs, including gentian, wormwood and cinnamon. A simple recipe, but one backed by generations of expertise.
In the glass, it shows a red colour with tile-like reflections. The nose is perfumed and herbal, with well-integrated notes of rosemary, thyme, oregano, sage and star anise. On the palate, it is balanced and light, with a sweet entry, hints of fruit and a delicate cinnamon aftertaste.
This is the house’s most versatile vermouth: smooth enough to enjoy on its own over ice with orange, yet expressive enough to pair with preserves and cured meats. A handcrafted treasure from the Maresme that keeps alive the spirit of the classic Mediterranean aperitif 🥂
