Description and style
Myrrha Red Vermouth is the house’s most deeply rooted expression of tradition at Padró i Família: a label that connects directly with the first aromatised wines made with wormwood and other botanicals in Camp de Tarragona during the 19th century, and one that has stayed true to that essence generation after generation at the winery in Bràfim.
Part of the Myrrha range, this is the maison’s traditional line, crafted with less complexity than Padró & Co. but guided by the same artisanal philosophy: estate-grown base wine — Macabeo and Xarel·lo from their own vineyards — blended with a careful selection of natural botanicals. The wine then matures in wooden casks, gaining body and building its signature aromas.
Sweetened with sugar, Myrrha Red offers a lighter, more direct profile than the winery’s premium Classic Red. In the glass, it shows a melted caramel colour with amber highlights.
On the nose, balsamic, aniseed and high-mountain herbal notes appear alongside citrus and spicy nuances. When swirled, it releases vanilla and clove, together with caramel and dried-fruit tones acquired during ageing in wood.
On the palate, the first impression is warm and enveloping, quickly turning fresh with citrus notes. The bitter edge merges with a smooth sweetness, and the finish is clean and well balanced.
Its versatility has earned it the nickname “the most chameleon-like”: ideal served over ice with an orange twist, excellent with smoked foods, herring and cheeses, and also a strong cocktail base. In 2018 it won the Vinari Award for Best Vermouth for Cocktails, selected by the Club del Barman de Catalunya.
The cocktail created for it, Brameta, combines brandy, mint and orange. In 2020 it received the Vinari Gold Award for Best Red Vermouth.
