Montseta Red Vermouth is the founding vermouth of Montseta Group, the quintessential vermouth of Valls and a direct tribute to Montse, the grandmother and pioneer behind Magatzem del Vermut, who passed down the recipe that now bears her name from one generation to the next.
With more than 70 years of history, this recipe was created by Josep Bellod and has been kept alive through three generations with the same respect for its original character. Montseta Group produces it in Valls under a philosophy of KM0 sourcing and radical sustainability: the wines are 100% Macabeo, grown on its own estates and supplied by nearby farmers, with strict control over quality and ripeness in every harvest.
Its production process is distinctive and deeply rooted in tradition. The vermouth base starts with 29 herbs, flowers and roots, harvested at their optimal point and dried in controlled conditions to preserve their full properties. This botanical blend is infused in old clay vessels with 50% alcohol and spring water for exactly 45 days — the 6 lunar phases — without adding or taking away a single day, following natural rhythms to draw out the best from each plant. 🌿
After that period, the infusion is drawn off and the remaining botanicals are pressed to recover every last drop of essence. The resulting soleras rest in oak barrels for 3 months, then are blended with white wine, sugar in just the right amount and caramel for its characteristic colour. The final blend rests for one more month so every ingredient can come together in perfect harmony.
In the glass, it offers an explosive botanical aroma with a signature character that is hard to imitate, plus a touch of cinnamon that softens the strength of wormwood. On the palate it is balanced, smooth and deliciously approachable, with the perfect harmony of acidity, bitterness and sweetness.
